Director of Senior Research Projects in Classics - Fall 2013 & Spring 2014
Mentored two advanced students in their independent senior-year research projects and internships. Facilitated internships between these students and sponsoring university professors of classics, and advised students on the course and culmination of their final research papers. Senior Latin Capstone: Roman Epigraphy - Fall 2013 & Spring 2014
Lead an advanced group of high school seniors in a year-long exploration of Latin inscriptions, graffiti, dipinti, and their utility in understanding both ancient language and culture. Directed student research into epigraphic evidence, and made use of the growing corpus of online tools for studying ancient inscriptions. (Class size: 8)
Latin I - Fall 2013 & Spring 2014
Instructed a small class in the fundamentals of Latin grammar and introduced them to reading original Latin texts by ancient authors. Students were regularly assessed by both formative and objective exams as well as by individual tutorials. (Class size: 8)
Classical Civilizations - Fall 2012 through Spring 2014
Introduced students to concepts in ancient history, archaeology, classical literature, and Greek & Roman civilizations generally. Considered topics from the Paleolithic period through the Fall of Rome. (Class size: 150)
Rhetoric & Logic - Fall 2012 & Spring 2013
Led students in an exploration of critical thinking and precise expression. Covered material ranging from Aristotle's Art of Rhetoric to Lewis Carroll. (Class size: 90)
Art Appreciation - Fall 2011
Coordinated and led an online class introducing art history and the interpretation of painting, sculpture, and architecture; produced digital learning resources, lectures, and course materials; disseminated course materials through online instructional tool; evaluated students’ contributions. Reading the Latin Epigraphy of Roman Lusitania - Summer 2009
Designed and instructed an intensive two-week, hands-on seminar on Latin epigraphy utilizing the collection of Lisbon’s Museu Nacional de Arqueologia as part of the PortAnta Archaeological Cooperative summer programs. (Class size: 7)
World Civilizations I & II - Taught five semesters between 2007 & 2010
Led recitation sections in discussion and review of topics ranging from Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” to the current crisis in Darfur, Sudan; designed exams and essays; evaluated students’ responses to the material. (Class size: 20 – 25; sections: 3 per semester)
